Information for Tenants
Tenant Charter
Metro Prepaid works to support tenants 24/7.
1.
Metro requires landlords treat energy consumers fairly when setting tariffs to recover energy costs. Landlords may recover the cost of providing energy but can’t profit by for example reselling energy for consistently more than they pay the Energy Company.
The costs of generating and distributing energy are high right now and will likely remain high for some time but economic and political circumstances may change and bring costs down.
There are new technologies under development that may in decades to come even make un-metered supply to consumers a reality.
2.
Our help desk is staffed by real people who operate 24/7 to serve you. Call us on 571 933 8557.
Like any call centre there may be times when the lines are busy, you may find it easier to find support online or call back at a different time (afternoons are often quiet).
Alternatively reach out on email help@metroprepaid.com.
3.
Metro Prepaid does not set energy tariffs or supply energy.
4.
The meter displays energy kWh credit.
If your tariff for example is set at 30c (because the landlord pays Dominion Energy 30c/kWh) then 10kWh is worth $3 excluding top-up fees.
5.
Prepay meters have been shown to greatly reduce energy usage and provide an ethical way to help reduce carbon emissions. The greenest energy is energy we do not use.
6.
Concerned your tariff has been incorrectly set and that your landlord is recovering more than she pays to the energy company? Let us know and we will assist in checking for you.

Should I ask my landlord to install a Metro Prepaid sub meter?
Metro Prepaid sub meters help tenants in the following ways:
- Metro Prepaid offers lots of convenient ways to buy power codes
- Prepaid sub meters help tenants manage their electricity usage - studies show energy usage reduces by on average 15% with prepay billing
- The greenest energy is the energy we don't use - prepay reduces the carbon footprint
- Planning to be away from home? Consider choosing to self-disconnect your electricity supply by running available credit to zero before you leave.
I am a tenant with a Metro Prepaid sub meter, I am moving out but still have credit on my sub meter can I get a refund?
Metro Prepaid will already have paid, or soon be paying, the money for the credit you have bought to the landlord. Please contact your landlord to request a refund.
